Bunker Busters PHB 1.5 Is Live and FREE
In 2019 I started building something in the margins of my life. Late nights. Stolen weekends. Rust in the veins.
In 2022, we released Bunker Busters to the world for the first time. It had already been three years in the making at that point. Since then it’s been played, tested, tweaked, broken, fixed, and slowly sharpened.
Now in 2026, PHB 1.5 is live.
This isn’t a quick patch. It isn’t a version bump for optics. It’s a real refinement. Seven years of design pressure condensed into something tighter, clearer, and stronger.
What’s Actually New
A lot.
We added pages and pages of lore. The world feels deeper now instead of living between the cracks of implication. Factions have more weight. History feels intentional.
Every single gear table has been reformatted, rebalanced, and cleaned up. Prices adjusted. Wording clarified. If something felt clunky before, it probably isn’t anymore.
There are new monsters and denizens. More things trying to kill you. You’re welcome.
Random loot tables are in. Mod tables are in. You can finally build wasteland weapons that feel personal, weird, brutal, and uniquely yours instead of slightly reskinned versions of the same thing.
Rules were refined across the board. Not reinvented. Refined. The dice system was modified to support smoother and faster play at the table. Heat has a clearer identity now and ties directly into legendary actions, so it actually feels like momentum instead of a side currency you forget exists.
Traits have changed, too. How you acquire them works differently now. Growth reinforces identity instead of feeling transactional. Traits are supposed to be one of the most fun parts of building a character, and now they land the way they should.
There’s also a metric ton of new renders and stronger graphic design throughout. The book simply looks better. It reads better. It feels more intentional.
And yes, I fixed a lot of typos. Probably not all of them. I’m not pretending I found every gremlin.
The point is this isn't just a tweak, but an overhaul, a new mutation if you will.
Why It Took So Long
The first release was in 2022, but the project started in 2019. During that time, I was leading environment teams on a open world games and later a massive MMO. That’s long weeks, big responsibility, and constant fires to put out. Bunker Busters was built in the margins of that.
I also went through a divorce after 15 years. That changes your life structure whether you want it to or not. Priorities shift. Bandwidth disappears. Real life demands attention.
The game didn’t die. It just went quiet while I handled the things that actually matter.
I could have rushed updates just to look active. I could have pushed incremental version numbers to signal motion. That’s not how I build. If I was going to revisit it, it needed to actually be better.
Now it is.
Why It’s Free
Because I want it played.
Because I don’t believe the front door to a community should cost $20.
The value of this game isn’t the PDF. It’s the tables. It’s the chaos. It’s the moment someone flips their rig and everyone loses it. It’s the stories that come out of bad decisions and lucky rolls.
If Bunker Busters is good, it’ll spread. If it’s not, charging for it won’t save it.
Free removes friction. You can download it tonight and run it tomorrow. No hesitation. No barrier.
If you want to support us, Patreon and Gumroad exists. Expansions will exist. Physical books will exist. There will be ways to throw fuel on the fire.
But the core game, the foundation, belongs in people’s hands.
What Happens Next
That depends on you.
Download it. Play it. Break it. Send feedback. Share it with your group chat. Start something.
If you’ve been here since 2022, thank you. Seriously.
If you’re new, welcome to the Doomed Lands.
Now go kick some Doomed Lander ass.
